Sapphic Erotica is the eroticism of Lesbians. The word 'lesbian' is derived from the Greek Isle of Lesbos. Sappho was a poet philosopher who lived there around 630 B.C. She wrote poetry for the women of Lesbos. Thus the evolution of the word 'sapphic' from Sappho.
Sapphic erotica is reasonably popular on the internet. It is interesting
that 'lesbian' is the ranked 11th of all sex search terms and receives 80,000
/day.
Ideas I would further like to explore are the differences in how lesbians
are depicted and treated in mainstream society (eg. masculine dykes) as
opposed to pornography (eg. hot lesbian orgies). It is also intriguing how
lesbian scenes are a part of mainstream pornography, while gay males have
their own genre.

Study Suggests Difference Between Female And Male Sexuality - Sexual Arousal & Orientation
Three decades of research on men's sexual arousal show patterns that clearly track sexual orientation - gay men overwhelmingly become sexually aroused by images of men and heterosexual men by images of women. In other words, men's sexual arousal patterns seem obvious. But a new Northwestern University study boosts the relatively limited research on women's sexuality with a surprisingly different finding regarding women's sexual arousal.
In contrast to men, both homosexual and heterosexual women showed a bisexual pattern of psychological as well as genital arousal. That is, heterosexual women were just as sexually aroused by watching female stimuli as by watching male stimuli, even though they prefer having sex with men rather than women.
