Introduction / Summary (2018): Hello and welcome to our Sexuality pages. While this is not a pornographic site, it is provocative - founded upon what people search on the Internet (which is very interesting!). We then relate this to our biological and cultural evolution.
Sex is obviously important to people - and if you want to improve your sexual relationships then knowing the truth about our human evolution is the best foundation. By opening our minds to a greater diversity of behaviors, this knowledge will help you creatively cultivate healthy pleasurable moral attitudes and sexy smutty relationships (free from religious guilt & cultural myths).
Support an open honest discussion on the truth of our sexual evolution and behaviour. If you support sex positive, moral, informed sexual behaviour please share this knowledge. (These pages have a diverse collection of fascinating information relating to our human sexual evolution so people will appreciate it - see our 'nice letters' page!).
Sincerely, Karene.

Male & Female Orgasms

Why do Women Orgasm? Health Benefits, Statistics, Ejaculation
Evolution & Orgasm
From the website: 'Philosopher of science, Elisabeth Lloyd has made a strong
case that female orgasm has no evolutionary significance (i.e., for promoting
the continuation or flourishing of the species), and that it is a happy
accident of evolution. The claim is that there are no data correlating female
orgasm with any aspect of fertility or reproductive success.
Others, such as anthropologist Donald Symons is said to have argued that
orgasm is possible in women because it is evolutionary crucial for the continuation
of the species that men have orgasm and that women's orgasms are a byproduct
of the necessity of male orgasm. The theory is that because embryos of both
sexes have a common early development, that when male orgasm is "selected
for" by evolution, female orgasm is coincidentally selected for as
well, and thus that it is a "byproduct" of male orgasm's role
in evolution.
I want to suggest here that male orgasm is not necessary for evolutionary success either, and that it too is an evolutionary coincidence, rather than an adaptive feature that natural selection favors.
- There is a difference between ejaculation of sperm/semen, and the intense
or explosive pleasure accompanying that ejaculation.
- Sex is sufficiently pleasurable even without the intense explosive burst
of pleasure of orgasm. Men would have sex for that pleasure alone.
- The desire for sex in many cases is something akin to an appetite, urge,
or itch. Not everything we do is done for some intense pleasure.'

Further thoughts: It is quite likely that orgasm is not just for pleasure but has important biochemical functions, e.g. to improve the chances of conception, to strengthen couple bonding. In other words orgasm is telling evolution that the woman is attached to the man (he is a good partner) thus by orgasiming she can increase the chances of conceiving. Karene.
Masturbation & Orgasm
Orgasm is the ultimate goal of masturbation. For men, masturbation generally ends with ejaculation. Females, with their potential for multiple orgasms, can masturbate for a longer period of time.
Masturbation can help both males and females to discover what really pleases them, thus offering insight into their sexuality and how to orgasm. The Shere Hite Report concluded that only 30% of women from the study orgasmed regularly from sexual intercourse (penetration). Most women (90%) orgasmed from masturbation. Of the 10% of women in this study who never orgasmed, most of them had also never masturbated. All women in the Hite Report say they were brought up with bad attitudes towards masturbation and were not encouraged to explore their bodies.
I Feel Myself: Erotic Orgasm Videos
From the website: 'When considering an ecstatic sensory experience such as orgasm, it seems obvious to me that the approach to such a task should at least attempt to venerate the experience. The site has been founded to present orgasm to you in a context that we feel befits it, and the individuals experiencing it at the time.
The participants on I Feel Myself (IFM) contribute for varying reasons.
As Werner Heisenberg realised way back in 1927, the very act of observation
alters the object observed; and here, as with atomic physics, so too does
the rule apply. So the voyeur plays a crucial part in this reciprocal experience.
... But why create a site with ordinary people sharing their orgasms in
varying stages of undress? For one - and Ill be totally honest now - watching
someone orgasm is an intensely erotic experience, that becomes increasingly
addictive.
... But we do have some altruistic intent. Orgasm is no mean feat, for some it is not experienced to it's fullest, and for others, not at all. The importance of unrepressive positive sexual attitudes can not be underestimated in creating a happy, healthy, orgasmic society. ... So inside us all is that naughty, cavorting sexual divinity, and I say come with me and set them free.'

Orgasm & Sexual Arousal in Women: A Study of Cardiovascular and Endocrine Alterations
From the website: 'This study investigated the cardiovascular, genital, and endocrine changes in women after masturbation induced orgasm.
Orgasm induced elevations in cardiovascular parameters and levels of plasma adrenaline and noradrenaline. Plasma prolactin substantially increased after orgasm, remained elevated over the remainder of the session, and was still raised 60 minutes after sexual arousal. In addition, sexual arousal also produced small increases in plasma LH and testosterone concentrations. In contrast, plasma concentrations of cortisol, FSH, ß-endorphin, progesterone, and estradiol were unaffected by orgasm.
Sexual arousal and orgasm produce a distinct pattern of neuroendocrine alterations in women, primarily inducing a long-lasting elevation in plasma prolactin concentrations. These results concur with those observed in men, suggesting that prolactin is an endocrine marker of sexual arousal and orgasm.

Evolution & Human Reproduction: Orgasm & Successful Fertilization
A very interesting essay from the journal of Evolutionary Psychology on sperm competition and strategies for successful fertilization.
'As the duration of coitus increases, the likelihood of female orgasm also increases, and it has been theorized that the vaginal and uterine contractions that accompany orgasm in females may be conducive to sperm uptake, transport, and retention (Baker and Bellis, 1993). From the standpoint of sperm competition, another benefit of extended periods of copulation would be more effective displacement of rival semen from the female reproductive tract. Indeed, premature ejaculation can be thought of as a failure to achieve semen displacement.'

Analyse any human emotion, no matter how far it may be removed from the sphere of sex, and you are sure to discover somewhere the primal impulse, to which life owes its perpetuation. ... The primitive stages can always be re-established; the primitive mind is, in the fullest meaning of the word, imperishable. ... Mans most disagreeable habits and idiosyncrasies, his deceit, his cowardice, his lack of reverence, are engendered by his incomplete adjustment to a complicated civilisation. It is the result of the conflict between our instincts and our culture. (Sigmund Freud)
