By opening our minds to a greater diversity of behaviors, this knowledge will help you creatively cultivate healthy pleasurable moral attitudes and sexy smutty relationships (free from religious guilt & cultural myths).
Support an open honest discussion on the truth of our sexual evolution and behaviour. If you support sex positive, moral, informed sexual behaviour please share this knowledge. (These pages have a diverse collection of fascinating information relating to our human sexual evolution so people will appreciate it - see our 'nice letters' page!).

Hello!

We have collected some very interesting information on the evolution of female sexual behavior. This is one of our first significant discoveries (connection of ideas / knowledge) so it is exciting to see how research in different areas combines to clearly show certain aspects of our evolved sexual instincts.

See below for a brief summary or read the complete article at Promiscuity and Female Sexual Evolution

A women is a combination of her biological evolution and her own creative cultivation (social / cultural construction). We encourage creativity - but with the harmony that comes from true foundations. As we see things this reflects the beauty of philosophy, the wisdom we derive from knowing the truth about things.

Below you will find a nice collection of articles (with summary and link to site) that are interesting and relevant to a women's sexual evolution. We hope you enjoy them - and use this knowledge in beautiful, creative ways!

On Promiscuity and Female Sexual Evolution

The evidence from evolution seems overwhelming that women have evolved a diversity of sexual strategies, all with the aim of getting the 'best' sperm based upon her position within the tribe.
Rather than being derogatory to women, this research shows how diverse, intelligent and complex women's sexual behavior is. And educating us to creative ways to cultivate these evolved instincts and behaviors (in nice moral ways!).
While this may be a monogamous coupled relationship, as the research below shows, it is clear that there are many other strategies available to a woman as well.

* The shape of the penis causes it to act as sperm pump.

* Semen coagulation, and natural spermicide properties (to kill other male's sperm).

* Seminal fluid buffers acidity of vagina, creating more viable conditions for sperm.

* Benefits of multiple sex partners for sharing of diseases (and hormone function).

* Paternity confusion (children evolved to look more like their mothers, less chance of infanticide, males provide more help & food for raising young).

* Women can have multiple orgasms (unlike men).

* The woman's vagina is lubricated only at the beginning of sex - seminal fluid also acts as a lubricant.

* Many animal species, including primates are promiscuous.

All in all the evidence is conclusive. Females have evolved to be promiscuous as one common strategy in their ancestry. And this diversity of behaviour is also shared by the males, creating a wonderfully rich and complex tapestry of sexual behaviours and strategies.

Sexual Evolution: Recent research challenges notion of Female Monogamy

For generations, biologists had assumed females to be naturally chaste, while males were renowned for their promiscuity. Now, hundreds of studies and a spate of books are challenging that conventional wisdom.
Females of many species have evolved strategies for passing on their genes that involve copulating with multiple males. Males, in turn, have adapted ways to ensure that their genes, and not those of competitors, are passed on. Understanding this co-evolution is changing our view of male and female sex roles.

Human Evolution: A History of Sex

Evidence that people have been promiscuous for a long time

Lotharios everywhere will be pleased to hear that monogamy does not appear to be a natural human state. That, at least, is the conclusion of a study conducted by Michael Hammer at the University of Arizona in Tucson, and just published in Nature Genetics. By examining the DNA of living people, Dr Hammer and his colleagues have found that far fewer men than women pass their genes on to subsequent generations.

Women have Evolved Strategies to get the Best Sperm

* This leads to a diversity of behaviour - from one partner to many. While there is still a lot to research to do, it is very likely that there are further subtle selection processes going on within the woman's body such that it allows the sperm with the best genetic structure to make its way through the vagina, cervix, uterus, and fallopian tubes - that long journey to its goal, the egg, and life!

A likely example is that we have evolved to find the scent of people with different immune systems to our own more attractive. Likewise it is likely that the woman's body has the ability to select this on the actual genetic structure of the sperm within her body - with the aim of allowing those that provide the most diverse immune system for her offspring.

There is much more to study and write up - these are some early thoughts.

Orgasm in Women Increases Chance of Conception

* vaginal contractions pull up sperm to cervix

* longer periods of coitus (needed to make woman orgasm, more effective sperm displacement)

On the Evolution of Menopause in Females

Why do women go through menopause?

The answer lies in the fact that evolution works on the principle of the survival of our offspring. Or more completely, the survival of our offspring's offspring. i.e. The perpetuation of the species over many generations. So we find that at a certain age it is better for our survival for the woman to become infertile.

Pregnancy Sickness: Aversion to Toxins, HCG Hormone

An academic essay which argues that pregnancy sickness (food aversions, nausea, vomiting in first trimester) evolved during the course of human evolution to protect the embryo against maternal ingestion of toxins abundant in natural foods.

Breastfeeding Health Benefits & Statistics

From the website: 'Breastfeeding has increasingly been recognised as the optimal form of infant feeding (WHO 2001). Research has provided evidence that breastfeeding increases a baby's resistance to infection and disease and is well suited to the growth and requirements of the infant (Marks et al. 2001).

Positive implications for women's health have also been recognised. Breastfeeding helps a mother's body recover to its pre-pregnant state more quickly, and lactation protects against premenopausal breast cancer and osteoporosis (ABA 2003). Psychological benefits between a mother and an infant when breastfeeding, encouraging close bonds, have also been recognised.'

Orgasms & Sexual Arousal in Women: A Study of Cardiovascular and Endocrine Alterations

This study investigated the cardiovascular, genital, and endocrine changes in women after masturbation induced orgasm.
Sexual arousal and orgasm produce a distinct pattern of neuroendocrine alterations in women, primarily inducing a long-lasting elevation in plasma prolactin concentrations. These results concur with those observed in men.

Strong Response to Erotic Pictures in both Male & Female Brains

A new study suggests the brain is quickly turned on and 'tuned in' when a person views erotica. When volunteers viewed erotic pictures, their brains produced electrical responses that were stronger than those elicited by other material that was viewed (no matter how pleasant or disturbing). This difference in brainwave response emerged very quickly, suggesting that different neural circuits may be involved in the processing of erotic images. Women had responses as strong as those seen in men.

On Female Sexuality: Sex, Desire, Drugs & Research

Though the situation is improving, science knows far too little about women’s sexual function. And government is mounting precious few studies to find out. When I looked for clinical trials related to female sexuality being sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, I found exactly two and they were related to the effects of cancer treatment. And yet, according to a recent study by researchers at Yale School of Medicine and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, nearly half of all women suffer from some sexual problem. Many suffer from more than one.

Female Health Problems: Premenstrual Syndrome

'Premenstrual syndrome' is the collective name given to a variety of physical and psychological symptoms that may appear a few days before a woman’s menstrual period. The underlying causes of PMS are hormonal changes in the woman’s body, but why and how they produce particular symptoms is unclear.
